The manufacturing processes of photovoltaic(PV) cells include texturing, diffusion, oxidation, photolithography, coating, sintering and some other processes. The corresponding equipment includes oxidation furnace, photolithography machine, diffusion furnace and other equipment.

It is common to use thermocouples measuring both the internal and external parts of the furnace to control the inner temperature of the diffusion furnace that could perform the oxidation process. Each specified temperature zone has a internal and external thermocouple to make sure the measure results are reliable.The R type external thermocouples are used to sense the outer surface of the furnace tube, each one commonly has only one pair of wires, to give an indirect measurement of the furnace.
